8 tips for creating your perfect wedding palette and style

When organizing  your wedding,  an event, or even a party with friends, there are two fundamental choices that you have to make:

  • style and mood

  • colour palette

Defining your style and palette from the start, will simplify and help you decide on other factors such as:  wedding invitations, flowers, floral decorations, table setting, cake decoration, bridesmaids gowns, etc.

From experience I suggest you to take your time while you are deciding on the palette and style, have fun with it and be daring!

When choosing your style keep in mind these 5 tips:

  1. Be aware of the style, colours and architecture of your chosen wedding or event venue.

  2. Start by picking out images to create different  moodboards  (see my Pinterest for some examples) and be inspired! Think outside of the box. You’ll notice that there will be elements, themes and images that keep coming up.

  3. Follow your gut instinct, your inner voice. It isn’t about what is fashionable but what gives you butterflies in your stomach.

  4. After a while go back to your moodboards and take a fresh look, you may notice details that you had overlooked. You might discover a unique detail for your project.

  5. And now create your final moodboard.

Three tips for choosing your colour palette:

  1. Pick out three colours that can have different shades or tones. Each tone or shade can be used in many different ways in your project.

  2. The colours can be tone on tone, opposite or complementary.

  3. Let yourself be inspired by everything around you: nature, art, fashion . You might find colour combinations that you have never dreamed about!

It was the Netflix series Bridgerton, with its clearly defined colour palettes and style, that inspired me to write this article. Ellen Mirojnick, the costume designer, created two very different colour palettes to set the two families apart. Each individual palette was used to choose gowns, interior decorations, and furniture.

A very colourful palette was used for the flamboyant Featherington family and a softer one for the elegant Bridgertons .

When interviewed, Ellen Mirojnick  pointed out that the first choices she made before everything else were colours and style.

Do you like Bridegerton’s palette? And have you thought about the style and colours for your special event? Let me know your thoughts!
